How to write an influencer campaign brief that gets great proposals
Updated 30 July 2026 · by the influ.buzz team
Your brief is a filter, not a formality
Creators triage briefs in seconds. Vague briefs ('looking for influencers to promote our brand!!') attract vague proposals from whoever mass-applies; specific briefs attract creators who've already imagined the content. The brief also becomes the contract's backbone — on influ.buzz it's frozen into the collaboration agreement at hire, so precision up front prevents disputes later.
The seven parts of a brief that works
- Product & story (3–5 sentences): what it is, who it's for, and the one thing the audience should remember. Give creators the 'why', not just the 'what'.
- Deliverables, exactly: '1× Instagram Reel, 30–60s' beats 'some content'. Count, format, length, platform.
- Budget range: post it. Hidden budgets waste everyone's time; ranges let the right creators self-select and quote honestly.
- Usage rights, up front: organic-only, paid-ads-90-days, or perpetual — it changes the price 30–200%, so decide before quotes arrive, not after.
- Dos & don'ts: 3–5 each. 'DO show real application. DON'T make medical claims. DON'T show competitor products in frame.'
- Timeline: content deadline plus your review turnaround. Two revision rounds is the fair standard.
- Compliance: disclosure labels (#ad #collab) required — non-negotiable under ASCI rules, and automatic on influ.buzz briefs.
Mistakes that poison the proposal pool
- Scripting every second: you hired the creator for their voice; over-scripted content underperforms and creators quote higher to compensate for the pain.
- Unlimited revisions: signals an indecisive client. Bounded revisions (2 rounds) get you better first drafts.
- Follower-count worship: ask for engagement rates and past brand-content examples instead.
- Rights grabs buried in fine print: creators notice 'perpetual usage' hidden in a brief priced for organic-only — and either walk or pad the quote.
